The wide variety
of styles and flavours found in pipe tobaccos are the result of centuries of
cultivation, fermentation, and experimentation. Today, we have access to a wide
variety of tobaccos from other countries. Similar to how different regions
evolved their unique wines and spirits over time because to the available
tobaccos and flavourings, these traditional types are now manufactured all over
the world.
To make it
easier to distinguish between natural English blends that are smoky and earthy
and the sweet and creamy Pioneer Tobacco, different blends are categorised
according to their composition, curing techniques, and flavouring. These
classifications can be as simple or as complex as you choose.
The simplest
version divides the tobaccos into Flavored (Aromatics) and Unflavored varieties
(often called English blends). This is excellent for straightforward
classification, but it still doesn't tell us anything about the tobacco mix
itself. Then, based on the aforementioned tobaccos used, processing techniques,
and flavouring, we can further categories them.
